    The cheapest way to get the Nano v.3. USB cable is the standard one.     Works great. Used in project to run a OLED screen. You need to install CH340 drivers and select "old bootloader" in Arduino IDE in order for it to conect. Price unbeatable.

      Recommendedis to use a 5V power supply, 1A is enough for just the microcontroller. You can go up to 12V I do it myself but then the voltage regulators have to work harder and get warmer to burn off the over voltage as heat so you need to take that into account if you use a power supply higher than 5V.

      Eachpin of ATmega328P should not provide or receive a current above a maximum of 40mA and the total current from all I/O pins must not exceed 200mA, so ATmega328P cannot directly handle RGB LEDs stripe to power it. You need to provide alternative power source for the RGB LED strips. Moreover, you need to know the required current for the LEDs. Typically, you can estimate 60mA for an RGB LED. That's 8.64A for a 144 LED RGB strip and 17.28A for two stripes of RGB LEDs. It's a fairly big power supply or battery. Better check the LED datasheet.

      Q: Both the boards I've used so far have failed do to the MCU overheating to ~200°C before falling permanently. Is this a known problem? The first failed without any external connections, just connected to the computer via USB.

      Q: I'm unable to upload anything to the board. Maybe there is no Bootloader installed. Also the "L" LED flashes all the time.

      Install CH341SER driver. In the Arduino IDE, select Board: "Arduino Nano" and Processor: "ATmega328P (Old Bootloader)" and Port: "COMxx", where xx is the port number associated to the CH341SER driver. The "L" LED flashes, because the "Blink" sketch is preinstalled on the Nano.
